Manly’s pride jersey round is a ‘wonderful’ concept says former NRL player Ian Roberts | 7NEWS

7NEWS Australia published this video item, entitled “Manly’s pride jersey round is a ‘wonderful’ concept says former NRL player Ian Roberts | 7NEWS” – below is their description.

Former NRL player Ian Roberts says that he heard a month ago about the Sea Eagles’ plans for their pride jersey concept, and was surprised that there was no ‘pushback’ earlier.

Ian Roberts, who ‘came out’ while playing at the club, says coach Des Hasler did the ‘right thing’ in saying that the club got a few things wrong in the way that they launched their pride jersey concept.

It’s expected that seven Sea Eagles players will boycott this week’s game because, they say, a pride jersey conflicts with their religious and personal beliefs.

“I’d love, if given the opportunity, to sit around the table with those guys and just have a conversation with them. I fully respect their views…as an older gay man, this is not unfamiliar” – Ian Roberts – Former Manly Warringah Sea Eagles star.

Ian Roberts says that he’s been lobbying the NRL for years for a ‘Pride Round’ and says it’s wonderful that the Manly players will wear the pride jersey in their match against the Sydney Roosters on Thursday night.
