Global News published this video item, entitled “Manitoba premier reacts to toppling of Queen statues says “tearing down is easier than building up”” – below is their description.
Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister commented on Wednesday on the toppling of two Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria statues by protesters on Canada Day, following the discoveries of unmarked graves as residential school sites.
“We all understand and we should understand that tearing down is a lot simpler than building up, but building up is what we have to dedicate ourselves to,” he said.
Pallister said that settlers who came to Canada before it was recognized as a country “didn’t come here to destroy anything. They came here to build.”
The premier said both statues will be restored after being torn down and covered in red paint.
