Manitoba official explains stricter COVID-19 health measures as military support arrives | FULL

Manitoba’s deputy chief provincial public health officer Dr. Jazz Atwal elaborated Friday on what the significant changes are to the province’s restrictions amid its struggle with surging COVID-19 cases.

Atwal said the orders put in place ahead of last week’s long weekend remain, and the new stricter orders will take effect from May 29 until June 12.

This update came as the military arrived Friday to support the province in its combating a devastating third wave of COVID-19 infections.

Earlier in the week, Manitoba again tightened COVID-19 restrictions and kept some schools under remote learning into June as the province’s health care system continued to struggle under the weight of hundreds of new cases a day.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister announced the new orders that will target gatherings, retail and workplaces, which go into effect Saturday, along with chief public health officer, Dr. Brent Roussin Thursday.
