Around 1700 university students are self-isolating at Manchester Metropolitan University after more than a hundred tested positive for coronavirus. The students have been told to stay indoors for 14 days, even if they have no symptoms. Students Thea Walton and Ellie Jackson say they can’t leave the campus, not even to buy food, and it feels “like a prison”. The only positive thing, they say, is they are now allowed to mix with other flats, as the area has been treated as one household. Other students interviewed have resulted positive for Covid-19 and are isolating in their flats, saying that the situation is very “surreal”. Locked down students should receive refunds on their university fees, according to senior Conservative figure.
