A 34-year-old was attacked on Sheffield Street in Merrylands at around 3:30pm. He suffered multiple stab wounds and lost a lot of blood before going into cardiac arrest.

Paramedics managed to stabilise the victim before taking him to Westmead Hospital where he is in a critical condition. Witnesses say two people were seen running away from Sheffield Street.

Police arrested a 30-year-old man in a nearby home, and they are searching for at least one other person.

Police have set up a crime scene. It’s believed the incident was a targeted attack, and police are confident there is no ongoing risk to members of the public.
