Macy’s flagship store and other businesses across New York City were damaged by looters overnight on Monday, June 1, according to local media reports.
Local media reported that more than 200 people were arrested into the early hours of Tuesday morning after looting and protests erupted again in the wake of the police-involved death of George Floyd. Reports said windows were smashed and stores ransacked despite a city-wide curfew and increased police presence.
This video shows a crowd amassing in front of Macy’s in Manhattan’s Herald Square and a burst of flames in the background. Reports said the doors of Macy’s had been breached. The footage also shows people climbing into a Sephora and a police officer chasing after an individual.
