Mackay has a new Olympic champion after debutante Meg Harris won gold in Tokyo for her efforts in the women’s 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay.

The 19-year-old swimmer is a former Eimeo nipper and was trained by local coach Pat Wright.

“I was super proud because when Meg first came to me she had an idea she might give up swimming so we went through those teething stages with her to where she became a very successful age group athlete.”
