Global News published this video item, entitled “”Luxurious:” Shanghai residents enjoy fresh air after 8-week lockdown nears end” – below is their description.
Shanghai supermarkets and corner shops were allowed to reopen in some districts on Thursday, after nearly two months of strict lockdowns have been in place across the city of 25 million people.
With June 1 set as the official date to emerge from lockdown, long lines were seen outside bustling supermarkets.
However, the city has remained cautious about easing strict COVID-19 restrictions, with most shops, restaurants and businesses remaining shut and a work-from-home regime still in place.
After being mostly cooped up at home for eight weeks, 25-year-old local resident Bi Wei said she came out with her friend to enjoy coffee and fresh air. “Although there are still many shops on the road that remain closed, I think this kind of experience is very luxurious.”
Shanghai reported 338 new locally transmitted infections for Wednesday, the lowest since mid-March and a far cry from the tens of thousands seen at the peak of its outbreak in April.
