In recent years Venezuela has become known the world over for its struggle between those who defend democracy and those intent on ruling for life.

Many accuse the government of cracking down on protesters, arrests without charge, political prosecutions and forcing critical voices into exile.

One of those voices belongs to former Attorney General Luisa Ortega.

Now, exiled in Colombia, Ortega continues to be one of the most vocal critics against Venezuela’s government, describing her home country now as a failed state.

Venezuela’s former Attorney General Luisa Ortega talks to Al Jazeera.
