A pair of wild crested ibises, named Honghong and Huohuo in Yangxian County, northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, is expected to welcome new life into the family soon.
The crested ibis is one of the world’s most endangered species. In 1981, only seven wild crested ibises existed in Yangxian County. After years of continuous conservation, the crested ibis population in Shaanxi has exceeded 3,300 for the first time, and the global population has surpassed 4,000.
