Live: What’s the talk – Is social media a traveler’s friend or foe?

CGTN published this video item, entitled “Live: What’s the talk – Is social media a traveler’s friend or foe?” – below is their description.

To Generation Z travelers, it has become a habit to seek travel guide, get holiday inspiration and document every single experience on social media. It seems that social media and travel are strongly linked and inseparable. However, some people believe that social media is ruining the beauty of travel. The traveler’s expectations may not match reality, with many photographs edited to look better than they actually are. And sometimes people find that they spend more time sharing their vacations on social media than actually enjoying it, which makes the travel less immersive.

In this episode of #What’stheTalk, we invite six young people from different countries and regions to share their travel experiences. To make the debate particularly special, the guests will meet in the #metaverse to discuss, does social media make travel worse or better?

In This Story: metaverse

A metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection.

In futurism and science fiction, the term is often described as a hypothetical iteration of the Internet as a single, universal virtual world that is facilitated by the use of virtual and augmented reality headsets.

The metaverse is something which many in the early 2020s are actively engaged in developing: an entirely online, virtual and alternative reality, in which people will be able to conduct many forms of business and social interaction – virtually.

The movement towards a metaverse gathered significant pace and attention when Facebook’s parent company rebranded itself to “meta” in 2021.
