CGTN published this video item, entitled “Live: What do Peking Opera artists do before going on stage? 探访京剧经典剧目《白帝城》幕后” – below is their description.
Join CGTN at the back stage of Mei Lanfang Grand Theater right before a new production of traditional repertoire “Baidicheng” meets the audience. Find out how the artists of the China National Peking Opera Company prepare for the opening show till the last minute. In earlier livestreams, we explored the vocal practice, “Chang Qiang (Chinese: 唱腔),” and cue-to-cue rehearsal, “Tong Pai (Chinese: 统排),” for “Baidicheng.” “Baidicheng” or “Baidi City” is a classic play adapted from 14th-century Chinese historical novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms.” It tells the story of dying Emperor Liu Bei, who entrusts his military advisor General Zhuge Liang to assist Crown Prince Liu Shan in administering state affairs.
