Live: Road built in cliff-top village helps villagers out of poverty

Abuluoha Village, located in Butuo County of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, has been widely noticed for a road project connecting the village to the outside world, with helicopters involved. Amidst mountains, the “cliff village” previously sat in isolation, with villagers having to spend three hours climbing up and down the steep mountain path to other places before a road was built on December 31, 2019. The project is vital as the village was the last place in the country without a road.

The poverty rate in Abuluoha Village was 71.94 percent due to inconvenient transportation. However, thanks to the poverty alleviation policy, the local authority built a 3.8 kilometer-long road to improve the traffic conditions that had long hindered its development. On June 30, 129 residents in 33 households in the village will move from adobe houses to new buildings and a passenger minibus service will be in place. What do the newly built road and villagers’ new homes look like? Join CGTN to walk on the mountain road six months after it was built and witness dramatic changes the road has brought to villagers’ lives and their incomes. #ZeroPoverty2020
