Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek is launching the ‘Threatened Species Action Plan: Towards Zero Extinctions’ at Taronga Zoo in Sydney.
The new plan includes a commitment to protect an additional 50 million hectares of land by the end of the decade. 15 new species of animal and plant have also been added the endangered list, primarily due to bushfire damage and human activity.
Plibersek says the plan is more ambitious and wide-reaching than that set out by the former Morrison government last year.
