The growing interest in surfing also comes with its own unique story centered around a fishing village turned surfing village, known as Houhaicun. Over the past five years, Houhaicun has transformed from a small fishing village to a trendy and sporty spot for surfing and is home to some 45 clubs offering classes and training. Its growth has helped boost local tourism and even grow the sport. So how has the sport changed the village, which is home to 3,000 residents? And what does it take to surf and catch the perfect wave? Join this special live stream from our Tides of Change series as our reporters Li Jingjing and Omar Khan walk you through Houhaicun and try their luck at the aquatic sport.
