United Nations published this video item, entitled “Libya: update on ceasefire agreement – Security Council Briefing (15 July 2021)” – below is their description.
Briefing the Council, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Libya, and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ján Kubiš, expressed concern that although the ceasefire agreement continues to mostly hold, the unity of the Joint Military Commission (JMC) and implementation of the agreement “could unravel if the political process remains stalled.”
The JMC, he said, “has a vital role in the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and its achievements have previously paved the way for political progress,” adding that “every effort must therefore be made to preserve its unity and to insulate its work from the detrimental effects of the political stalemate and the standoff between Libya’s main political actors.”
