Lawmakers, first lady thank National Guard troops after “parking garage” controversy

Global News published this video item, entitled “Lawmakers, first lady thank National Guard troops after “parking garage” controversy” – below is their description.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reacted on Friday to reports that National Guard troops were ordered by Capitol Police to vacate the U.S. Capitol Thursday evening, leading them to nearby parking garages to rest between shifts.

Schumer called the action “utterly unacceptable” and said the situation had been corrected, adding that he directed those in charge of security at the Capitol “that it can never happen again.”

“I don’t think a single senator feels that was acceptable,” McConnell said.

First Lady Jill Biden, who holds a doctorate degree education, visited with National Guard troops on Friday, bringing cookies she said were baked by White House staff.

“I just wanted to thank you from President Biden and from the whole – the entire Biden family,” she said.
