ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Laura Tingle looks at Australia’s nuclear submarine plan | 7.30” – below is their description.

Australia has junked a $90 billion submarine contract with France to enter into a new security pact with the US and the UK, giving it access to nuclear secrets and technology for a new submarine fleet.

The announcement throws up two big questions – what the US might expect in return from Australia should it ever find itself in a war with China, and whether Prime Minister Scott Morrison is eyeing off an election focused on national security sooner rather than later.

7.30’s chief political correspondent Laura Tingle takes a look.
