China plans to allow international scientists to access the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) in 2021. FAST is on the search for signals from stars and galaxies and, perhaps, extraterrestrial life. Following the collapse of the Arecibo Observatory on December 1, a dish used in research on stars that led to a Nobel Prize, FAST is the only other significant instrument of its kind.
