New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio defended his tweets criticizing a large Jewish funeral at his daily coronavirus briefing. Critics accused de Blasio of singling out the Orthodox Jewish community claiming others have violated social distancing rules as well.
A large, tightly packed Hasidic Jewish funeral for a rabbi who had died of Covid-19 took place in New York City, consequently dispersed by police. The mourners were defying social distancing rules intended to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
No arrests were made but the police commissioner said Wednesday that a dozen summonses were issued with note to violating social distancing and not immediately dispersing.
