The federal government says it will extend the First Home Loan Deposit Scheme to another 10,000 first home buyers in Tuesday’s Federal Budget. But Labor says this does nothing to fix housing affordability, saying the government needs to scrap the cap altogether and also focus on building more social housing to keep Australians off the street. “The government’s said this is going to be a ‘women’s budget’, that it’s all about women’s physical security and economic security. Well, the key to that is having a roof over your head and the biggest group of homeless Australians are mums and kids.
