In shocking news, Twitter users have made sweeping judgments of people based on a brief video clip. Even more shockingly, given more context, the rights and wrongs of those in the video aren’t so clear.
The original footage showed a white woman pointing a handgun at a black woman and shouting at her to ‘get away,’ before getting into her car with a white man and driving off. This resulted in the white woman being labeled a racist and ‘KKKaren’ – the usual stuff.
Then a longer film emerged that showed the build-up to the incident. This included the black woman, Takelia Hill, accusing the white woman of bumping into her 15-year-old daughter. An argument ensued in which the white couple tried to leave and refused to apologize, while Hill accused them of being racist. This caused the white woman to lose her temper and boldly claim that ‘no-one’s racist’ and ‘white people aren’t racist’.
The camera pulled away for a moment and then Hill was seen hitting the car’s rear window, later claiming she feared the couple were about to run her over. At this point, the white woman got out of the car and pulled her gun.
