South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Kimchi, the latest cultural feud between South Korea and China” – below is their description.
Kimchi has become the latest cultural spat between South Korea and China after Beijing won a certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for the making of pao cai, a type of fermented vegetables from Sichuan.
The Chinese word for ‘pao cai’ can also refer to kimchi, a staple in Korean cuisine. Some Chinese media suggested the certification sets an “international standard” for the industry led by China, sparking debates in both countries.
