Kim Jong-un warns Covid posing ‘great turmoil’ on North Korea as deadly outbreak quickly spreads

South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Kim Jong-un warns Covid posing ‘great turmoil’ on North Korea as deadly outbreak quickly spreads” – below is their description.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said on May 14, 2022, that the country’s first reported Covid-19 outbreak has put the country in “great turmoil” and called for an all-out battle to overcome the epidemic. The statement, reported by the country’s state media, followed Pyongyang’s first official report on May 12 of a Covid-19 outbreak, sparked by the highly contagious BA.2 Omicron subvariant, prompting a nationwide lockdown. It’s the first admission from the hermit country, which closed its borders to nearly all trade and tourism in early 2020 to protect itself from the coronavirus pandemic.
