The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Kenya election: Scuffles as results are announced” – below is their description.
Scuffles broke out in Kenya on Monday after several election officials dissociated themselves from the final tallying stages of the presidential election result.
The clashes preceded the announcement by Kenya’s electoral commission chair that Deputy President William Ruto was the winner of the close presidential election.
The scuffles followed others which took place on Saturday when riot police responded to disruption at the national tallying center amid tensions over the close results.
Turnout dipped sharply in this election, to 65%, as some Kenyans expressed weariness with seeing long-familiar political leaders on the ballot and frustration with economic issues including widespread corruption and rising prices.
