The Samburu community in northern Kenya has maintained centuries of a strict patriarchy, where beating women is not uncommon and deep-rooted traditions like female circumcision still happen.
However, a group of women is trying to change that by setting up female-only villages that take in those who have suffered domestic violence or have said no to outlawed cultures.
