K-pop group TWICE performed in front of viewers from 126 countries for their “‘Beyond LIVE – TWICE : World in A Day” concert, during the coronavirus pandemic on Sunday, according to the band’s agency, JYP Entertainment.
Large-scale virtual concerts by K-pop bands like THE popular nine-piece girlband, are keeping fans around the world glued to their screens. It’s the latest example of how the K-pop industry has been pioneering a new era of online shows, after the coronavirus pandemic stalled music industries around the world.
The world-tour themed concert comes after the cancellation of TWICE’s physical world tour last year, due to the pandemic. The members danced with various backdrops featuring landmarks around the world, powered by augmented reality and other technologies.
The concert was streamed on VLIVE, a South Korean livestreaming service, VLIVE, which allows real-time interaction between artists and audience.
