Members of K-Pop sensation BTS are expected to join U.S. press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for the White House press briefing on Tuesday to discuss anti-Asian hate incidents around the country.
Their appearance is part of a visit aimed at discussing Asian inclusion and representation and addressing anti-Asian hate crimes and disinformation and will include a closed meeting with President Joe Biden in the Oval Office.
The group’s visit comes days after Biden returned from his first trip to Asia as President, which included a three-day stop in Seoul and meetings with newly elected South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
The band, also known as the Bangtan Boys, has found international success with songs like “Butter” and “Dynamite,” with fans who refer to themselves as the “Army” spanning across the globe.
Last year, amid a spike of anti-Asian hate crimes in the U.S., including shootings at three Atlanta-area spas, BTS spoke out about their own experience with discrimination.
