Boris Johnson has said Ukraine should host the next Eurovision despite the organisers preparing to hand it to the UK over safety fears amid the continuing war.
The Prime Minister – who has just returned from meeting President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev – said Ukraine deserved to host it after winning this year’s pop competition and said he was confident it would be safe for them to do so by 2023.
Ukraine has expressed its anger at the prospect of being robbed of what it says is its rightful chance to host the competition and has urged the European Broadcasting Union to reconsider.
