Bloomberg Quicktake: Now published this video item, entitled “Johnson Disputes Kermit the Frog at the UN: ‘It Is Easy to Be Green'” – below is their description.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson quoted Muppet character Kermit the Frog and referenced to Greek playwright Sophocles during his address to the United Nations General Assembly.
In his speech on Wednesday, he said Kermit was wrong when he sang “it’s not easy being green,” adding that it was “easy, lucrative and right” to be green.
The prime minister also said he was in agreement with Sophocles who he said characterised man as “both terrifying, but also awesome.”
Referring to the COP26 summit to be hosted in Glasgow at the end of next month, he said “in the next 40 days we have to choose, the world has to choose, what kind of awesome we’re going to be.”
Hopes for a successful summit have been boosted by announcements this week from the world’s two biggest economies and largest carbon polluters, the United States and China.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said his country will no longer fund coal-fired power plants abroad, while U.S. President Joe Biden announced a plan to double financial aid for green growth to poorer nations to $11.4 billion by 2024.
Britain has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions to net zero by 2050, and Johnson has championed the expansion of renewable energy.Bloomberg Quicktake: Now YouTube Channel
