Global News published this video item, entitled “John Turner: State funeral for the former Prime Minister of Canada | LIVE” – below is their description.
The state funeral for former Prime Minister of Canada John Turner will take place at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica in Toronto, Ont. on Tuesday.
The funeral won’t be open to the public to help curb the spread of COVID-19 — a reality that his family and the federal government have had to contend with as they determine how to honour his public life while public events are restricted.
Turner died at the age of 91 on Sept. 19. He served as prime minister from June 30 to Sept. 17, 1984.
The last state funeral for a Canadian prime minister was for Pierre Trudeau in 2000.
