President Joe Biden on Saturday (16 October) paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the name of law enforcement, as he evoked the Capitol riots of nine months previous as an example of how crucial their role can be.

The president was speaking at the 40th Annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service when he made the remarks.
