The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “Joe Biden decries ‘one of the darkest days of our history'” – below is their description.
President-elect Joe Biden called Wednesday’s storming of the US Capitol “one of the darkest days of our history,” and said the violence was a predictable consequence of Donald Trump’s “contempt for democracy”.
Mr Biden said Mr Trump unleashed “all-out assault” on democratic institutions and said the mob were not protesters but “domestic terrorists”, in an address to the nation.
He said: “Don’t dare call them protesters; they were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists. It’s that basic, it’s that simple.”
The President-elect said there is no question Black Lives Matter protesters would have been treated far differently yesterday, saying: “We all know that’s true. It is unacceptable – totally unacceptable.”
He went on: “I wish we could say we couldn’t see it coming but that isn’t true. We could see it coming. The past four years, we’ve had a president who’s made his contempt for our democracy, our constitution, the rule of law clear in everything he has done.”
