Israeli emergency forces evacuated villages in the Jerusalem hills as fires tore through forests and farmland on Wednesday, fanned by the summer heat.

The Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway was temporarily closed to traffic. Meanwhile, crop-dusting planes helped firefighters, dumping extinguishing fluid on the flames.

There were no reports of casualties.
