South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Japan’s ‘invisible’ disabled step out of the shadows to showcase their artworks” – below is their description.
Despite Japan hosting the Paralympics on two occasions and a public commitment to support disabled people, Japanese with impairments often find the workplace inaccessible to them, with little support available, according to experts and campaigners. Welfare workers often blame social stereotypes and the law for the lack of work opportunities. In Tokyo however, a local shop has been showcasing handmade items made by disabled people – part of a small but growing national movement within the country to promote creative works produced by the disabled.
