China’s investment in water conservancy facilities totaled 195.8 billion yuan (about $29 billion) in the first four months of 2022, jumping by 45.5 percent year on year, data from the Ministry of Water Resources showed on Thursday.

Construction worth 30 billion yuan began on nine major projects between January and April.

Rural water supply projects that will benefit more than 6.66 million residents garnered 20.2 billion yuan.

Construction worth more than 800 billion yuan will begin on 30 other new major projects this year.

About 19 billion yuan will be invested in modernizing the country’s major irrigation districts to maximize irrigation efficiency and grain production. The ministry and relevant departments have endeavored to increase financing channels, including special-purpose bonds for local governments, as well as financial and social capital.
