Congressional investigators into the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol reconvened for the committee’s seventh hearing on Tuesday, focused on drawing connections between then-President Donald Trump’s associates and right-wing militia groups who stormed the seat of government.

Jason Van Tatenhove, the former media director for the far-right anti-government militia Oath Keepers, as well as self-identified ex-Trump supporter Stephen Ayres provided testimonies on their participation in the lead-up to Jan. 6 and Trump’s influence on their actions.

In footage shared at the hearing, former Attorney General William Barr can be heard recounting that Trump asked to have the Department of Justice seize voting machines, which Barr refused to do, due to a lack of probable cause. The hearing also displayed an executive order drafted by several of Trump’s advisors to appoint American Attorney Sidney Powell as Special Counsel with the power to seize voting machines, which former White House counsel Pat Cipollone “vehemently opposed.”

The hearing also reviewed past phone records between Trump with former advisor Steve Bannon and former Vice President Mike Pence, Trump’s last-minute changes to speeches, recordings from Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump and more.

The attack on the Capitol, following a speech Trump gave at a rally outside the White House that day, delayed the certification of Joe Biden’s election for hours, injured more than 140 police officers and led to several deaths. The committee said that they will be reconvening next week for an eighth hearing.
