Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul provided an update on Wednesday into the shooting of Jacob Blake and gave the timeline of events that led up to his shooting, including the naming of the officer who shot the Black man, Rusten Sheskey. Kaul said that during the investigation following the initial incident in which police were called due to a woman reporting her boyfriend was not to be on the premises, Blake admitted to having a knife. Kaul said during the incident, Sheskey fired seven shots into Blake’s back, and no other officers fired their weapons.
He also spoke about the incident on Tuesday night, during the ongoing protests due to the shooting of Jacob Blake, in which two people died and another injured after being shot, was a “despicable” event. He also said there are “a number of people, certainly some and quite possibly many of the people” involved in destructive or violent activity are not from Kenosha, Wis. or even the state. He asked for people in the community to grieve, to come together and protest peacefully, and heal. He said those coming to the community to commit arson or violence are creating “chaos.”
