U.S. President Donald Trump visited Kenosha, Wis. on Tuesday amid ongoing unrest in the country following the shooting of Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old Black man shot seven times in the back by a police officer on Aug. 23. Trump visited a store that had burned down, as well as other parts of the town impacted by protests over Blake’s shooting that had at times turned violent. He also spoke with the owner of the store, in operation for 109 years, who said he was thankful federal troops had been sent in to help in calming the ongoing unrest. The president also spoke about some governors had not accepted the federal government’s offer to send in the National Guard, saying that had an earlier request been made by Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, they might have saved property. The president also toured an emergency operations command centre following his visit to damaged parts of the town, praising law enforcement for their work and the National Guard for its involvement.
