China has released new photos of the surface of Mars collected by its Tianwen-1 probe mission launched in July 2020. The images shared on June 29, 2022, include shots of the planet’s southern polar region and an 18km (11 miles) high volcano. The Tianwen-1 spacecraft carried an orbiter to circle Mars, as well as a lander and rover that reached its surface in February 2021. China is not the only nation exploring the red planet. US space agency Nasa is also conducting studies with its Curiosity and Perseverance rovers.
