FRANCE 24 English published this video item, entitled “Islam in France: Reunion Island, a model for the mainland?” – below is their description.
French Muslim leaders recently approved a “charter of principles”, a text which outlines Islam’s compatibility with the French Republic and provides a framework for the training of new imams. But this isn’t entirely new for France. On the remote Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean, the capital’s mosque is already run without foreign influence and future imams learn about French history. Some suggest this could serve as a model for the mainland. Our France 2 colleagues report, with FRANCE 24’s James Vasina.
