IS conflict: Falluja detainees ‘tortured by Shia militias’ – BBC News

A number of Iraqi men detained during the current government offensive to recapture Falluja from IS say they have been tortured during questioning. The reports emerged when some six-hundred Iraqis from a town north of Falluja were released on Sunday after being arrested when government forces retook the town last week. Pictures show some of the men being treated for injuries to the head and body. They’d faced questioning over whether they were IS members. They were being held by a mainly Shia militia, which is a key part of the offensive. The government has said it will investigate alleged abuses during the operation.
