FRANCE 24 English published this video item, entitled “Is Christmas saved? Europe eyes easing of Covid restrictions” – below is their description.
Can Christmas be saved? Four weeks after France returned to lockdown, confinement is now starting to pay dividends with a decreasing Covid infection rate. With the country due to ease restrictions, how to gradually deconfine while bearing in mind that winter’s not summer and that a vaccine won’t come to the rescue during the months when Europe migrates indoors? How radical should we be? Cue images of U.S. airports that saw their busiest weekend since March ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday Thursday. While traffic there is still down 60-percent on the same period last year, the spike nonetheless shows the lengths to which many will go to honor tradition, even at the risk of a family meal becoming a super spreader event. So how do we gather if we are not sure it is safe? Over Zoom? Since the start of the pandemic, we have been observing the digital acceleration it’s triggered, particularly in the workplace. After two waves, do we have a better idea of how much our lives and livelihoods have migrated online… and how much of that is for good?
