Semeru volcano in Indonesia’s East Java province erupted on Sunday, spewing a column of ash 1.5 kilometers into the air, the country’s National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency said. Indonesian authorities raised the warning on Semeru volcano to the highest level after the eruption. The evacuation of people living near the volcano has begun, according to a local official.
