Indonesia’s Semeru volcano erupted on Sunday, spewing a cloud of ash 15 kilometres into the sky and forcing the evacuation of nearly 2,000 people, according to authorities.
Eyewitness video showed villagers evacuating with their belongings through ash-covered land.
Semeru is the tallest mountain on Java and erupted last year, killing more than 50 people and displacing thousands. There have been no immediate reports of any casualties from the eruption of the volcano this year.
