But after bats were identified by some health officials as having a possible role in the transmission of the Covid-19 coronavirus from animals to humans, there have been efforts to remove the flying mammals. But many Royandapuram villagers oppose any plans to eradicate bats and their habitats, saying they consider the hundreds of creatures in the area to be their “gods”.
