India’s devastating second wave of coronavirus infections has not just brought urban hospitals to the breaking point. In the village of Mewla Gopalgarh, in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh, Covid-19 patients unable to find beds at a nearby government hospital have had to seek help from a makeshift clinic under a tree, where practitioners of alternative medicine put them on glucose drips hanging from branches.
