From Mumbai in Western India to Assam state in the north, much of the country was under water on July 5, 2022. Life was brought to a standstill by torrential monsoon rains in Mumbai, the country’s financial hub, as commuters waded ankle-deep through flooded streets and businesses were closed. Meanwhile, millions of farmers in India’s Assam state have been displaced by weeks of torrential downpour and 150 deaths have been recorded in the region, according to media reports.
