Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “India races to help hundreds of thousands stranded in Assam floods” – below is their description.
Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced by heavy flooding in Assam state in India’s northeast.
Darrang district, where more than 4,500 people are living in relief camps, is one of the worst affected areas.
While Assam floods every year during the monsoon season, record rainfall and water releases from dams have caused widespread devastation.
Floodwaters are blocking major roads and preventing trucks from bringing supplies.
And people who are already struggling to survive are anxious about where they will go if water levels rise again.
Al Jazeera’s Pavni Mittal reports from Sipajhar in northeast India.
