    Doctors in India have warned that even if their patients survive a coronavirus infection, a portion are going on to develop serious and sometimes fatal infections of black fungus. Mucormycosis is normally rare, but hospitals are reporting a spike in cases as India grapples with its devastating second wave. Surgeon Dr. Manish Munjal tells The World the prevalence of prediabetes in India makes the population particularly vulnerable to the disease.
